Bringing a Little Extra Joy—and Fire-Safety Awareness—Home for the Holidays

This holiday season, the King Family Memorial Foundation hopes to provide new artificial Christmas trees to a limited number of families who may otherwise go without one.

The KFMF Holiday Tree Assistance Program is open to households in Bucks, Montgomery, and Lehigh Counties that are experiencing financial hardship, an unexpected life change, or another difficult circumstance.

Along with bringing some extra joy to local homes, this program supports KFMF’s commitment to fire prevention and education. An artificial tree eliminates the risk of a live tree becoming dangerously dry, but no Christmas tree is fireproof. Every tree, light strand, and decoration should still be used safely.

KFMF Holiday Tree Assistance Information

Who May Submit a Request?

To be considered, applicants must:

  • Be at least 18 years old.
  • Reside in Bucks, Montgomery, or Lehigh County.
  • Complete the request for their own household.
  • Currently be without a safe, usable Christmas tree or be unable to obtain one due to financial or unexpected hardship.
  • Submit only one request per household.

KFMF will not require proof of income, financial documents, medical records, or a formal letter. We simply ask applicants to share a few sentences about their household and what receiving a tree would mean to them this holiday season.

All information will remain confidential and will only be reviewed by KFMF’s selection committee.

How to Request a Tree?

Complete the confidential Holiday Tree Assistance Request Form by 11/23/26.

Submitting a request does not guarantee that a household will receive a tree. A limited number of trees are available, and KFMF may not be able to fulfill every request.

Selected households will be contacted by the week of 11/30/26.

How Will Families Be Selected?

KFMF wants the process to be respectful, fair, and confidential.

Priority may be given to households that:

  • Do not currently have a Christmas tree.
  • Have a tree that is damaged or no longer safe to use.
  • Are experiencing significant financial hardship.
  • Have recently experienced a fire, displacement, job loss, family emergency, or other unexpected circumstance.

If more equally eligible households apply than there are trees available, KFMF may conduct a random drawing within that priority group.

Applicants will not be judged on grammar, writing ability, or how emotional their response may be.

What Selected Families Should Know?

  • Each selected household will receive one artificial Christmas tree.
  • Tree height, color, style, and whether the tree is pre-lit may vary based on availability.
  • Decorations and additional accessories are not guaranteed.
  • Pickup information will be provided to selected households.
  • Limited delivery assistance may be available based on location and volunteer availability.
  • KFMF will never publish a family’s name, story, or photograph without separate permission.
  • Agreeing to photographs or publicity will never be a requirement for receiving a tree.

Christmas Tree Fire-Safety Facts

Christmas tree fires are not common, but when they occur, they can become serious very quickly.

According to the National Fire Protection Association:

  • From 2020–2024, fire departments responded to an estimated average of 143 home fires each year that began with a Christmas tree.
  • These fires caused an estimated annual average of seven deaths, 13 injuries, and $15 million in property damage.
  • Nearly half of home Christmas tree fires involved an electrical problem.
  • A heat source placed too close to the tree contributed to nearly one out of every four Christmas tree fires.
  • Approximately 48% of home Christmas tree fires began in a living room, family room, or den.
  • As live trees dry out, they become increasingly flammable and can burn very quickly.

Keep Your Tree and Home Safer

Whether your tree is real or artificial:

  • Keep it at least three feet away from fireplaces, radiators, space heaters, candles, heat vents, and other heat sources.
  • Place the tree where it will not block a doorway or exit.
  • Inspect holiday lights before using them.
  • Discard light strands with frayed, pinched, or damaged wires or loose bulb connections.
  • Follow the manufacturer’s directions regarding how many light strands may be connected.
  • Turn off or unplug tree lights before going to bed or leaving home.
  • Never use lit candles to decorate a Christmas tree.
  • Consider battery-operated flameless candles for holiday decorating.
  • Make sure your home has working smoke alarms.

If you choose a live tree, add water every day and remove the tree promptly when it becomes dry.
